UP's Electric Mobility Policy: Extended Benefits for EV Buyers till 2027

Uttar Pradesh has extended its electric mobility policy to October 2027, promoting electric vehicle (EV) adoption. Initially announced in October 2022 and set to end in 2025, the policy now offers continued subsidies for over three additional years. This decision follows the state's recent announcement of registration fee waivers for strong hybrid vehicles.

Incentives for EVs

Consumers can benefit from subsidies on electric two-wheelers and four-wheelers until 2027. Two-wheeler buyers receive ₹5,000 per vehicle, with ₹100 crore allocated for subsidies covering around 20 lakh units. Four-wheeler buyers get ₹1 lakh per vehicle, with ₹250 crore allocated, covering 25,000 units. However, the subsidy applies to only one vehicle per buyer.

Manufacturing and Economic Impact

The policy also aims to attract significant investments and create numerous jobs. It provides incentives for EV manufacturers, battery producers, and service providers developing charging and swapping infrastructure. Notably, it targets establishing battery manufacturing plants with at least 1 GWh production capacity, offering capital subsidies of up to 30% for substantial investments.

Benefits for Hybrid Vehicles

In addition to EV incentives, the UP government offers tax waivers for strong hybrid vehicles, reducing costs significantly. Customers can save up to ₹3 lakh on hybrid vehicle purchases due to waived registration fees, benefiting from reduced road tax based on vehicle prices.
